MIDWEST CITY, Okla. (KFOR) – Authorities were called on a rescue mission Wednesday afternoon after a woman was discovered trapped in a hole in Midwest City.

Authorities were called to the scene near NE 23rd and Douglas around noon Wednesday.

David Richardson with the Midwest City Fire Department says the hole was around three feet wide and eight or nine feet deep.

The woman told authorities she was walking along NE 23rd St. east of Douglas Blvd. Tuesday evening when she fell in and was unable to get out on her own.

Richardson says she was trapped overnight before being discovered by a couple Wednesday afternoon.

“A couple was walking along the street and they heard a woman yelling and whenever they looked down the hole they made contact with her,” said Richardson.

Once first responders arrived on scene, they were able to save the woman.

“We’re able to lasso a rope around her and pull her up out of the hole,” said Richardson.

About an hour after she was pulled from the hole, the city came out and filled the pit with sand.

City officials say they have no idea where the hole came from.

Authorities say woman was taken to the hospital for a medical evaluation, but did not appear to have any obvious injuries.
